Fred Zimmerman is a respected Chicago actor who has spent over 25 years acting in National Broadway Touring Companies, at Regional Theaters, Stock Companies, and in theaters across Chicagoland, including Goodman, Court, Northlight, and the Body Politic,


2019 has been busy, including appearing as Ellsworth Snow in "Into the Breeches" at Chicago's Northlight Theater.  He'll also be seen as Santa in seven commercials for Home Depot's Christmas 2019 campaign.

Past highlights include:


  • 2 years with the Chicago company of Show Boat, directed by Hal Prince, at the Auditorium Theatre.

  • The Original Cast of the new Stephen Sondheim musical "Bounce," opening at the Goodman Theatre, and then moving to the Kennedy Center (including the original cast recording).

  • Playing JP Morgan in the Tony-award winning version of Ragtime, at the Oriental Theatre, directed by Frank Galati.

  • Two appearances at Chicago's Lyric Opera; The Merry Widow starring Renee Fleming, and the debut of a grand production from Théâtre du Châtelet and director Robert Carsen.

  • Delighting audiences of all ages as Santa in The Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rocketttes.

  • Playing Kris Kringle in A Miracle on 34th St. directed by David Cromer, at the Chicago Center for Performing Arts.

  • Sleuthing as Lieutenant Nick Rosettii in the Chicago comedy icon, Shear Madness, at the Mayfair Theatre in the Blackstone.

  • 18 productions at the Marriot theatre, as well as periodic appearances on television (including most recently, Chicago Fire and the pilot for ABC's "Doubt."
